In the Middle Ages, a king or other noble who owned enough lands to require traveling to oversee them, or who had ridden off to war, would entrust the management of his estates to a Seneschal. Social niceties at each estate or castle would be the domain of a Chatelaine. In the SCA, a Seneschal keeps each Shire or larger group's projects and events coordinated, while the Chatelaine welcomes newcomers, manages loaner garb and gear, and ensures attendees at events sponsored by his/her group are provided hospitality ensuring their enjoyment, whether the event is their first or their hundredth. |

Lady Symonne de la Fontaine is delighted to have been the Minister of Children for the Shire of Arenal since July 4, 2009. Since then it has been a non-stop learning experience for her and our little people. They learn period crafts like calligraphy and the difference between heraldic colors and mundane colors. Period games, dance, how to approach the crown and how to behave in court are also taught. Children learn productive play as well as independent play. Parents can feel confident leaving their children with our Minister of Children at events. Children as young as five (5) are welcome. If the parent is present we can also watch them younger. There are activities for all ages! Lady Symonne is also the Youth Combat Marshall so she oversees all of the youth activities. So come join in for some fun and games - you might learn something new!.
